Collection: Lowlands

The Lowlands are located south of the Highlands, as the name suggests. They are the most densely populated area in Scotland. The most famous Scottish cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, are in the Lowlands. The area between these two cities is called the Central Belt. This is where most Scots live. The landscape is fertile and green. Lush meadows and fields cover the land everywhere. Grain is primarily cultivated, which is used in the production of Scotch whiskies. The soil is less peaty. Consequently, little to no peat is used for drying during malting. In addition, many Lowland whiskies are distilled three times. This makes them particularly mild. They are excellent for whisky beginners and as an aperitif.
