The most densely populated area of Scotland is the Lowlands. As the name suggests, they are located south of the Highlands. Due to the fertile landscape, grain cultivation is the preferred agricultural branch there.

Of the 10 active single malt distilleries that once existed, only three remain today. The only distillery still using the traditional triple distillation method is that of Auchentoshan Three Wood.

Best Whisky Flavor through Triple Distillation

In general, Auchentoshan Lowland whiskies are particularly mild. In addition to triple distillation, Auchentoshan Three Wood has another special feature: it matures in three different woods and takes the best flavor from each. After being stored for 10 years in American bourbon, it spends a year in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. This is followed by a six-month stay in Pedro Ximenez casks. This creates a single malt with caramel, sherry, and oak aromas.

Tasting 1

Eye: The amber color glows fiery under light.
Nose: Auchentoshan Three Wood exudes a distinctive and strong fruity scent. Blackcurrant stands out particularly clearly.
Palate: A nutty, but also fruity taste with a delicate syrup note spreads in the mouth.
Finish: The whisky has a long and powerful finish. Raisins and oak are discernible. It tastes sweet and at the same time creamy.

Tasting 2

Nose: The single malt smells fruity. Here, the scent of raisins, mainly dates, and orange peel mingle.
Palate: A beautiful balance is created in the mouth. On the one hand, you taste dark and ripe aromas. In some places, however, also syrupy and fruity notes. On the other hand, you recognize the cedar-like and oily characteristics of the alcohol. This taste mixes with marshmallows.
