Premiere at Lochlea Distillery: Batch No. 1 of Lochlea Cask Strength sees the light of day! Only 15,000 bottles will be released worldwide.
This new Lowland single malt matures for an unknown period, 70% in first-fill bourbon barrels and 30% in Oloroso sherry casks. Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 is bottled at a cask strength of 60.1% ABV! As with the young distillery's previous bottlings, there is no chill-filtration or added coloring.
The new bottling brings the familiar aromas of fruit, cigars, and coffee beans to the nose from previous releases. On the palate, it impresses with the characteristic Lochlea fruit notes and hints of Brazil nuts. The finish is accompanied by orange and oak notes.
The Scottish distillery landscape has recently gained another independent, family-run farm distillery with Lochlea. John Campbell, the former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, is responsible for the distinctive style of the single malt. The whisky is made exclusively from barley grown on-site, distilled, and matured on the premises. From field to bottle, the Lochlea Single Malt is thus traceable – true to the distillery's motto: "Dare to be honest."
