Scotland - The Land of Whisky. Scotland is considered the birthplace of whisky, and its history with this noble spirit dates back centuries. The first documented mention dates back to 1496, when the Scottish monk John Cor received malt for the production of "aqua vitae". Over the years, whisky evolved from a craft production in monasteries to a significant industry. The introduction of the "Excise Act" in 1823, which promoted legal distillation, marked a turning point and laid the foundation for modern whisky production. Today, Scotch whisky is known worldwide for its quality and diversity and is an essential part of Scotland's cultural heritage. Scotland's Whisky Regions Scotland is divided into five official whisky regions, each with its own characteristic aromas and traditions. The "Islands" are treated as a sub-category of the Highlands region. However, the whiskies of the individual islands differ considerably from those of the Highlands, which is why Whisky Fox has given the islands their own category.
