The Isle of Raasay "The Chinkapin" is an exciting single cask and special bottling from the young Raasay Distillery on the island of the same name off the west coast of Scotland. The distillery is known for innovative cask maturation and a modern style that combines both unpeated and lightly peated distillates. Bottled at 50.2% ABV, not chill-filtered and uncoloured, this single malt displays its full aromatic depth.
Maturation & Cask Types
The whisky matured in Chinkapin oak casks (Quercus muehlenbergii), an oak species native to North America. This particular cask type is known for producing intense aromas of vanilla, spices, and sweet oak. It lends the whisky a distinctive character with a balanced combination of sweetness, spice, and structure.
Aroma: Vanilla, caramel, honey, light fruits, and fine spice notes.
Taste: Full-bodied and creamy with sweet malt, toffee, spices, light smokiness, and elegant oak spice.
Finish: Medium to long, warm and spicy with sweet vanilla and a delicate woody note.
