Lindores Abbey Distillery

After a break of 523 years, spirit is finally flowing once again from the copper pot stills at Lindores Abbey Distillery. Distillation has taken place on this site at least since 1494, but probably long before that.

Collection: LINDORES ABBEY – THE SPIRITUAL HOME OF SCOTCH WHISKY

Welcome to the place where the history of Scotch whisky began. As early as 1494, distillation was officially documented here – the earliest written record can be found in the Exchequer Roll of that same year. Friar John Cor, a monk of Lindores Abbey, received a royal commission from King James IV to turn "eight bolls of malt" into Aqua Vitae. This impressive quantity of approximately 500 kilograms of malt would have been enough to produce around 400 bottles of whisky by today's standards.

Over five centuries later, in 2017, distillation came back to life. In the gleaming copper stills of Lindores Abbey Distillery, the noble distillate once again flows, honoring the centuries-old tradition of the monks while boldly looking to the future.

The distillery combines the best of tradition and innovation. Inspired by the great Scottish distilleries of the past and present, as well as international pioneers, Lindores Abbey pursues a modern approach to whisky production. The result is exceptional single malts created in this historic place.
