The Quest
The Macallan presents the new Quest Collection for Travel Retail with four representatives. The four bottlings are whiskies with no age statement and, according to the distillery, represent the passionate search for the best wood and the best casks for whisky maturation.
For The Macallan Quest, as the first representative of the collection, four cask types were used: in addition to hogsheads and American bourbon casks, sherry casks from Europe and America were filled with fresh new make spirit.
The Macallan
The distillery on the River Spey was founded almost 200 years ago and is now one of the largest distilleries in Scotland. In fact, however, it has only been dedicated to the production of single malt whisky for a relatively short time (at least in whisky terms). Until the 1980s, The Macallan was only used for bottling blends.
And this is how the Macallan tastes
Tasting 1
Colour: Pale gold. Nose: Soft citrus, rounded apple and lemon. The sweetness of vanilla and subtle oak. Palate: Apple blended with ginger and dried fruits. Nutmeg and cinnamon show, soften and disappear. Finish: Great length. Soft with light fruits and a medium sweetness. Tasting Notes by The Macallan
Tasting 2
Nose: Fruity with strong orange notes, lime, lemon and red apples. In the background, caramel, vanilla, spices (some cinnamon and nutmeg) and subtle oak notes. Palate: Sweet and spicy notes combine wonderfully. Ripe apples, ginger, dried fruits and sugar mix to create a taste reminiscent of almost spicy fruitcake. Behind this are vanilla, citrus, nutmeg, cinnamon and oak. Finish: Short, fruity and sweet. Tasting Notes by themashing.com
Tasting 3
Nose: Sharp with surprisingly small (but still visible) vanilla notes. Warm toast, oak, orange, apricot and lemon, which sounds like a lovely rustic breakfast. Palate: Appropriately sweet, but not as nuanced as hoped. Lots of orange, lemon, dried apricot and vanilla. Finish: A rather high dose of wood. We consider it a sharp finish.
