The Scarabus Batch Strength is perfectly suited for those who appreciate a powerful dram. With its 57% vol. alcohol, it delivers the intensity of flavor that connoisseurs of Islay whiskies love so much.
Matured in Bourbon and Virgin American Oak casks, it is bottled without coloring or chill-filtration.
Hunter Laing describes the Scarabus series as follows: "Scarabus, an Islay Single Malt for the curious and those with an eye for detail. A whisky that is bold and honest about its origins, and just a little mysterious about everything else."
The brand creates a sense of mystery and discovery through the slogan "only those who seek shall find" and through the intentionally ambiguous symbols on the label. The look and feel were inspired by the work of Islay-born John Francis Campbell, who developed the sunshine recorder, a device that counts the hours of sunshine in a day, as well as an extensive collection of Celtic folklore stories.
Scarabus is known as a mystical area on the Isle of Islay, and the name dates back to the 13th century, meaning "a rocky place" in Old Norse.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Intense smoke with notes of sea salt, vanilla, leather, and licorice.
Taste: Very powerful and intense with peaty notes, seaweed, and a hint of rhubarb, vanilla, and leather.
Finish: Long smoky finish with notes of malt, citrus, and peat.
