Port Charlotte is produced at the Bruichladdich Distillery on the Scottish island of Islay, a region renowned worldwide for its heavily peated whiskies. The distillery stands for artisanal production and relies on traditional methods. Port Charlotte whiskies are known for their intense smoky aromas and the typical maritime note, influenced by Islay's unique climate.
Port Charlotte PAC: 01 consists of two so-called parcels, meaning new-make spirits, which were distilled in November 2011 and later blended into one. The first part matured for six years in first-fill ex-American whiskey casks and then received a finish for two more years in ex-red wine casks from the Pauillac region. The second part matured for seven years in ex-American whiskey casks and then for two years in second-fill Pauillac casks.
Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose reveals a combination of rich peat smoke, ripe red berries, and a hint of oak. Notes of vanilla and spices, along with a light maritime breeze.
Palate: On the palate, intense smoky notes unfold, accompanied by a sweet fruitiness. Flavors of dark chocolate, spices, and a hint of red grapes provide complexity.
Finish: The finish is long-lasting and warming, with a blend of smoke, sweet fruit notes, and a pleasant spiciness.
