Tasting 1
Eye: Beautiful golden shimmer. Nose: Fresh and seductive with ripe pear, cherry, and exotic fruit aromas. Citrus notes of blood orange and lemon unfold with subtle, floral hints. After some time, hints of pastry, coconut, and Bourbon vanilla join in. In the background, mint and musk. Palate: Juicy and pleasant. Intense, ripe fruits with rum accents (banana) and caramel. Complex notes of licorice and star anise. Mid-palate, fruits, especially pear nectar. Creamy with noticeable freshness. Finish: Similar to the palate with pear and vanilla-Bourbon. Slightly bitter on the finish, but pleasant. Tasting Notes by Nikka
Tasting 2
Eye: Yellowish, like varnished pine. Nose: Milder than the 1995 edition. Soft with creamy syrup and a touch of vanilla, as well as light wood aromas. A grain sensation, even if it's not as strong as it could be. Chamomile. Stewed tea. Very interesting. Very herbaceous for a grain whisky. Palate: Incredibly flavorful. Green tea with honey. Delicate sugar. Light notes of solvent, but not too much (and not necessarily negative). Lemongrass with grapefruit and vanilla pudding biscuit. Big notes of Chardonnay in something very sweet. Great texture, but rather two-dimensional compared to the older, larger cask-strength monsters. No, I'm being too harsh - scratch that. Consider the whisky's own merits. An elegant grain whisky. malt-review.com
