The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve is the big brother of the popular 12-year-old Glenfiddich.

The 15-year-old single malt matured in three types of wood: new oak, ex-bourbon casks, and ex-sherry casks. It is very warm, spicy, and complex in its aroma development. The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve has the typical fruity pear taste, but also wonderful aromas of dried fruits and the sweetness of heather honey. Spices like vanilla and cinnamon, as well as ginger and marzipan notes, are accompanied by a gentle oak tone. Try this very special single malt from Speyside!

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old - Marriage in the Solera Vat

The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old is called Solera Reserve. This is because, after maturing in three different casks, a special method from sherry production is applied. Before bottling, the 15-year-old spends another 9 months in the so-called Solera Vat (Vat = Cask). The Scots borrowed this method from the Spanish to achieve consistently high quality. The whiskies from the different cask maturations – new oak, bourbon, and sherry casks – are married in an oversized Solera vat made of Douglas fir. Only then is the single malt diluted with water from the distillery's own spring by Glenfiddich and bottled. Since 1998, the Solera Vat has remained half full, and then the various cask maturations are added to it.

The Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve is significantly more complex than its little brother, the Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, which is the best-selling single malt in the world. Both share the typical fruity taste of pear and a hint of apple, but the 15-year-old is noticeably spicier with a strong note of vanilla and toffee. Notes from the oak casks, warm cinnamon tones, and caramel, as well as a hint of mild spice from pepper and ginger, complete the Scotch single malt. The 15-year-old Glenfiddich also has no extravagances, so it also appeals to the taste of many whisky connoisseurs.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Tasting

Tasting 1

Eye: Gold. Nose: chocolate, slightly peaty. Palate: soft oily and fruity (pear) slightly chocolatey, spicy. Finish: long, warm, spicy.

Tasting 2

Eye: bright, radiant, golden. Nose: Excitingly complex, with sweet heather honey, vanilla and dried fruits such as raisins, sultanas, plums and apricots. Palate: Silky smooth with nuances of sherry casks, marzipan, cinnamon and ginger, full-bodied and intense. Finish: Full, with lingering sweetness, Tasting notes from Glenfiddich Distillery

Tasting 3

Nose: Honey with hints of wood and vanilla. Complex spice and fresh fruits. Palate: honey again, perfectly balanced by fine spice and Glenfiddich maltiness. Finish: medium length, with sherry notes and spiciness. Comment: the sweetness is effortlessly balanced by the drier oak. Jim Murray, Whisky Magazine
