Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold is made from distillates produced during the Scottish winter.

The Dalwhinnie distillery is the highest located in the Scottish Highlands. During the winter months from October to March, icy winds whistle through the Highlands, creating harsh conditions. The copper stills are therefore very cold and intensify the result – the colder the winter, the smoother and warmer the distillate becomes. So says Dalwhinnie.

Tasting 1

Golden yellow. Fresh, lively, and sweet on the nose. Leading aromas include candied lemon peel, vanilla, and fresh, green apples. Followed by golden syrup, fresh cotton, sultanas, and hints of earthy ginger with pencil shavings. On the palate, fresh and lively again with green apples and candied lemon peel. As these slowly fade, it becomes sweeter, smoother, and milder. Immediate notes of crumbly brown sugar and toffee, developing into honeycomb/golden syrup and juicy sultanas. A lot of fresh oak, reminiscent of pencil shavings again, plus some cinnamon. These elements are supported by bittersweet, malty barley, earthy ginger root, baking spices, and cocoa powder. Mild and warm on the finish. Drying wood spices, especially cinnamon. Malty cereal notes dominate as the soft sultanas, brown sugar, and honey slowly fade. Tasting 2

Nose: Fresh, fruity, and sweet with peaches, honey, and oranges. Hints of vanilla (New American Oak) and mint. Bright, malty aromas. Soft ginger. Very pleasant… summery. Summer's Gold? Palate: Initially fruity again with a young profile of malt, oranges, and honey sweetness. Followed by notes of oak spices (pepper and ginger). Pencil shavings. Cinnamon. Hints of Poire Williams or peach schnapps unfold. Finish: Medium length, but rather harsh and bittersweet with slightly synthetic orange notes. Tasting Notes by WhiskyNotes.be
