The malt is neither chill-filtered nor colored. It matures relatively briefly in white oak barrels, but in the heat of Bangalore, whiskies mature faster, so that aromas can be absorbed from the barrels despite the shorter aging period, which then unfold in the glass. The Amrut Single Malt is dominated by spicy oak notes, which, together with vanilla, licorice, honey, toffee, and barley, create a beautiful balance. A very good whisky for every day.
Amrut Single Malt - Indian Whisky with Scottish Standards
In Bangalore, in the Himalayas, not only software is created, but also rather good hardware in the form of various Indian whiskies from Amrut. The distillery has committed itself to the highest quality to stand out from the crowd of Indian whiskies.
India is, as many probably do not know, the largest producer of whisky after Scotland. The barley for the malts comes directly from nearby fields or is specially imported from Ireland. 25 percent of the malts are peated and the remaining 75 percent are unpeated. Only the best barrels are destined for export, such as the Amrut Single Malt in the 0.7 liter bottle.
In the glass, it develops diverse aromas that each palate and nose processes in its own way. Lots of oak, grain, licorice, honey, and toffee. To bring out the sweetness a little more, we recommend adding a splash of water to the whisky, which breaks up the complex oak structure and gives the warming sweet and fruity notes more power.
The Amrut Single Malt in the Glass
Tasting 1
Color: Golden yellow. Nose: Perceptibly familiar notes of licorice and bourbon with an almost perfect bitter-sweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee. Palate: Beautiful richness and an intense sweetness of barley and oak; sweet again, but this time with a large bourbon-like cut in the taste of licorice and molasses, but the barley notes mix this up. Finish: Long-lasting and wonderful layers of oak open up variations of sweet-dry characteristics; velvety-smooth with some toffee cream on the finish. Tasting Notes from Amrut Distillery
Tasting 2
Nose: New Yorker City tap water (from the perspective of a person from Connecticut) or perhaps pure, fresh rain. Spiced butter on freshly baked sesame bread (oh, I like that – a lot!). A bag of dried grain (oats and barley). Long-lasting, savory warmth. Braised apricots with cinnamon. Gruyere cheese. Vanilla and macarons. Palate: Extremely smooth. Chlorinated water and Indian food: Mango chutney with noticeable ginger notes. Pine nuts and basil pesto (with a clear focus on the pine nuts). Finish: Aromatic with buttered bread and pine nuts. Overall: Highly recommended. The mouthfeel alone makes me happy. A beautifully balanced, unique whisky. Simple concept, but extremely delicious. A great everyday whisky, no doubt. Tasting 3
Nose: Full of sweet caramel and toasted grain. Palate: Citrus and honey tickle the palate, also honey cake. With half a teaspoon of water, it became even better and sweet toasted honey grain jumped to the forefront. Finish: Initially oak, cocoa, and tobacco, and then a brilliant burst of earth and cinnamon with a distinct sweetness, long-lasting with a pleasant lingering sweetness.
