The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Scottish island of Islay, which impresses with its complex variety of aromas and its typical maritime character. With an alcohol content of 50.0% vol and careful maturation in various casks, this whisky is a true highlight for lovers of smoky and fruity single malts. Produced at the Bruichladdich Distillery, known since 1881 for its progressive approach and its connection to the island of Islay. The distillery is the only one on Islay that distills, matures, and bottles its single malts 100% on the island. The Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 was made from barley from eight local Islay farms, making it a true “terroir whisky”.

The whisky was distilled in 2014 and matured in a combination of ex-American whisky casks, second-fill virgin oak casks, and second-fill Bordeaux casks. This careful maturation gives it a complex aromatic structure and a perfect balance between fruit, smoke, and sweetness.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Initially dominated by notes of malty oat biscuits and light peat smoke, followed by sweet vanilla, honey, toffee, and crème brûlée. A hint of citrus and salty, maritime notes rounds off the bouquet.

Palate: On the palate, an elegant mix of sweet, ripe fruits such as apricot, peach, and melon unfolds, enveloped by peat smoke and burnt heather. The texture is full-bodied and balanced, with a subtle spice of toasted oak.

Finish: Long and elegant with an aftertaste of soft stone fruit and the sweetness of toasted oak. The finish is perfectly balanced and leaves a lasting impression.
