Dark, rich chocolate behind a sweet but sour heart. Plus linseed oil with a malty top layer. Palate: Soft, balanced, and sweet with a pleasant mouthfeel and cinnamon spices. Chocolate limes, caramel, and lemon cream form the body. There are also notes of oak, grass, and burnt hay, reminiscent of a campfire. Finish: Medium to long-lasting with grassy peat smoke, citrus peel, dark chocolate, licorice, and long-lasting earthiness. Rating: I wasn't sure what to expect, but this is exactly right. Young and fresh, but nicely weighted with the sherry influences. Becoming sweeter and maltier, then aromas of lye and lemon unfold. After a while, vanilla notes appear on the palate and in the nose. Becoming saltier and more integrated with the addition of some water. Palate: Initially coal smoke and ash with some sweetness. No other flavors initially, but the existing ones are really good. A little later, organic hints (wet leaves and compost), vanilla and lime develop. Even later, saltier. And a little later, the vanilla becomes stronger. With the addition of water, again less vanilla, but sharp with sour smoke. Finish: Long-lasting. Ashy, lingering smoke. Salt crystals pop.
