The Lindores Abbey Distillery

Welcome to the place where the history of Scotch whisky began. As early as 1494, distillation was officially documented here – the earliest written record is found in the Exchequer Roll of the same year. Friar John Cor, a monk of Lindores Abbey, received a royal commission from King James IV to turn "eight bolls of malt" into Aqua Vitae. This impressive amount of about 500 kilograms of malt would have been enough to produce around 400 bottles of whisky by today's standards.

Over five centuries later, in 2017, distillation came back to life. In the gleaming copper pot stills of Lindores Abbey Distillery, the noble distillate once again flows, honoring the centuries-old tradition of the monks while boldly looking to the future.

The distillery combines the best of tradition and innovation. Inspired by the great Scottish distilleries of the past and present, as well as international pioneers, Lindores Abbey pursues a modern approach to whisky production. The result is exceptional single malts created in this historically significant place.
